It is widely apprehended by the people that investigation of the Hakkim murder case of 2014 February 10 is purposely being derailed by those in power.
A gang of local mafia is suspected to be behind the gruesome murder of Hakkim which seems to buy protection and impunity not just from certain power centers in the Congress-led ruling United Democratic Front but also from the CPI(M) -led Left Democratic Front
It was only after 42 days of day & night sathyagraha before the Payyanur police station by People’s Action Committee in October-November 2014 that the Kerala cabinet announced its decision to take immediate steps to leave the case to CBI .
In the meanwhile,concerned officers in the Crime Branch of Kerala Police were  reported to have made some progress in identifying the culprits and were said to be close to making certain arrests.
Neither CBI actually took over the case nor were the state police investigators allowed to produce any tangible result even after 13 months since the occurrence .
Investigation of Hakkim murder should not be derailed on whatever pretext .
You may kindly note that Ms K Devi of Kerala Sthreevedi has today entered the 9th day of indefinite hunger strike and her health condition is going very critical . Janakeeya Samara Samithi on behalf of which the indefinite fasting sathyagraha is undertaken started as lately as on March 19. Most activists who brought this new forum to existence were also part of the Peoples Action Committee.
At the same time, Peoples Action Committee is continuing its agitations which started in May-June 2014 .The ongoing 2nd phase of indefinite day and night sathyagraha by the activists of Peoples Action Committee started on February 25 ,2015. Its campaigns have so far drawn much attention among people from all walks of life, both from within Payyanur and elsewhere in Kerala .
You may also take kind note of the fact that Mr C Krishnan, the MLA representing Payyanur Assembly constituency and leader of Karmma Samithi (which is yet another peoples’ forum demanding proper investigation of Hakkim murder case) has also demanded that the case be immediately handed over to the CBI .
There is profoundly growing public concern all around, to see culprits in Hakkim murder ultimately tracked down and brought before the law.
In this particular case, It is also widely believed that a CBI investigation is the only possibility from the point of view of ensuring justice to the victim’s family. Equally important aspect is about  removing, for once and for all , apprehensions in the minds of people. With the elapse of 13 months time since this murder and yet with not even a single arrest made by the police ,  people have reasons to fear that the culprits may be succeeding, albeit temporarily, in buying in protection and support of certain powerful politicians of both political camps, Viz .the UDF and LDF .
With the earnest request that action may be taken at the earliest to hand over the Hakkim Murder Case of February 2014 to the CBI for further investigation .
